FAQs
Once decluttered, it’s time to consider how belongings are best stored to make daily life as stress-free as possible. Organising by category makes storage and retrieval much easier, and making good use of space may involve rearranging furniture and introducing rails, shelving or hooks. It may also be necessary to introduce new storage.
This is always the first step, unless a thorough declutter has already been done. There is no point in spending time and energy organising things you don’t want or need! If decluttering is required, we’ll sort through your belongings together, making decisions on what to keep and what to let go.
Decluttering and organising are terms that are often used interchangeably, which can cause confusion! Professional organisers focus on the process of creating a more organised home life that can be maintained long-term. A Declutterer may just focus on reducing belongings.
I can help organise any area within the home, plus outdoor spaces such as garages and sheds. Recent creative projects have included transforming former ‘junk room’ into an art studio, making a home office from an under the stairs cupboard and creating a drinks bar in a summerhouse. I’m very adaptable!
This depends on your preference. One approach is to organise seasonally, and in the UK, two seasons work well – warm and cool. Clients are often surprised by the number of clothes they own, and the number they no longer wear. We will take stock of them all so that you can see just how many pairs of black leggings you really have (the record is 55!). How best to organise clothes that take prime position depends very much on your lifestyle…the system must suit you and your needs.
This depends on the size of your space and what you want to achieve. During initial contact, we’ll discuss timelines and develop a plan that suits your schedule and preferences.
No. Before you spend money on storage, we need decide on what you are keeping and plan where it will be stored, then we can identify what storage is required. I cannot emphasise how important it is to declutter first – otherwise you will just be spending time and energy on storing items that you no longer want or need! It’s often the case that we can reuse containers that you already have. If you do need to buy storage, I can give recommendations for this.
Many of my clients do! Yes, there are specific conditions that make staying organised more difficult, but I know from many years of working with neurodivergent clients that success is always possible. The key is to find the ‘magic sauce’, the strategies that work for the individual client…there’s no ‘one size fits all’ with me!
Yes definitely, but please ensure in advance that they are happy to proceed.
